About Watad Labs

Watad Labs builds dependable software for students of knowledge, starting with tools that preserve the knowledge of our scholars.

أَلَمْ نَجْعَلِ ٱلْأَرْضَ مِهَـٰدًا ۝٦
وَٱلْجِبَالَ أَوْتَادًا ۝٧

Have We not made the earth a resting place, and the mountains as pegs?

An-Naba 78:6–7

A watad is a peg. Mountains hold the earth steady; we want what we build to hold the same way.

Why we exist

Software for students of knowledge is often an afterthought: a side project, a template with a new coat of paint, an app that stops being updated. The people who rely on it deserve better.

We want it engineered to the standard of the best software companies: small in scope, tested before release, measured, maintained, and honest about what it does.

Founder

[CONFIRM: photo or none] Seid Muhammed is a full-stack engineer in Addis Ababa. He has built Islamic and community software, including Qawqal, a cross-platform app with more than 10,000 downloads, and founded Watad Labs to build that kind of software with the care it deserves.

Values

Four words we hold ourselves to, each with its source.

  • Itqan

    إتقان

Work is finished, tested and exact.

We ship less rather than ship sloppy.

    An-Naml 27:88

  • Amanah

    أمانة

    A scholar's words and a user's data are a trust.

We never alter meaning without review and never sell data.

    An-Nisa 4:58

  • Sidq

    صدق

    No inflated claims.

Every number, source and grading can be checked. AI drafts; scholars decide.

    At-Tawbah 9:119

  • Naf'

    نفع

    Benefit that lasts.

We measure success by benefit that lasts, not by attention.

    Sahih Muslim 1631

Where we are

We build from Addis Ababa for students of knowledge in East Africa, the Gulf and beyond.
